Restaurant Review of Cafe European in Tampa, Florida
Located near downtown Tampa at 113 S. Hyde Park Avenue, the bistro known as Cafe European is just a stone's throw from the University of Tampa. Students and professors frequent the place, in addition to local business people and tourists. The popular restaurant is a welcome change from the chains, having friendly service and a cozy decor of green wainscoting and large windows that face the street. The tables are tightly packed just like in Europe, but the customers don't seem to mind and simply enjoy the ambiance - which is supported by the unusual, but beautiful dinnerware that they use, more information: https://www.slateplate.com/pages/restaurant-info
Cafe European Restaurant in Tampa, Florida
The menu is moderately priced, with lunch costing about $10 per person and dinner doubling that amount. Their offerings include English dishes like fish and chips, corn chowder, burgers, and bangers and mash.
Cafe European makes their own tartar sauce, which is light and mild, and healthy salads taste great served with their tangy house dressing. The corn chowder has kernel corn, potato, celery and onions swimming in a creamy soup, served alongside warm bread with real butter. Fluffy egg quiches are baked with broccoli or spinach. One can order a pork chop for only $8 at lunchtime, and it comes with broccoli, mashed potatoes and gravy.
The wine and beer list of Cafe European is not extensive, but well rounded with red wines from California, Argentina, Chile, Spain, Australia and France. Their beers come from the United States, Holland, Ireland, Italy and the United Kingdom. The homemade Sangria also gets rave reviews, but desserts are a special treat. Berry Crumble is a warm, crunchy cobbler served with vanilla ice cream and the Pot Au Chocolat is a mousse served in a chocolate casing.
One customer remarked that Cafe European "provides excellent and consistent dishes, reasonably-priced, all cooked to order, and without fuss." Another customer who was on vacation said, "A couple of locals recommended Cafe European to me. I took my wife there and wasn't disappointed as the food is really good."
